Creating a Thinking School
'The excellent progress made by pupils in developing their thinking skills has a marked effect on their personal development and the standards they attain', Spinney Avenue CE School - extract from Ofsted report.
The Cognitive Education Centre (CEC),University of Exeter and Kestrel Education approach to the teaching of thinking is unique. A key element is the whole-school approach, with all staff trained and all students with their personal toolbox.
Each school will be supported to develop an individual action plan.
Each school will become a member of the UK Thinking Schools network and have access to network conferences and also the expertise of other schools in the network. This includes those schools which have gained recognition from the university for the quality of their work.
Each school has their own personal consultant who will provide on-going support to the headteacher and staff. The amount of support will depend upon the expertise already in the school.
We have looked at a large number of relevant research articles relating to thinking skills and present a selection of 27.
