Richard

Following a career in secondary schools in West Sussex and Wiltshire Richard joined the advisory service of Wiltshire LEA. Here he worked with a number of national companies and together they developed resources and approaches to the teaching of thinking which supported schools across Wiltshire. In 2001 Richard established Kestrel Education and with a team of people with a similar passion began a programme of training for teachers in schools across the UK. Richard also began work with Gill Hubble, Associate Principal of St Cuthbert's College in New Zealand and she has continues to work with Kestrel.

Kestrel also works closely with David Hyerle, creator of Thinking Maps and Art Costa, creator of Habits of Mind. Professor Anna craft at the University of Exeter is now working with Kestrel on the development of the Learning Conversations project.

Kestrel is the only UK company able to offer accredited training in Thinking Maps.

Kestrel's work is endorsed by Art Costa.

In 2005 Richard began work with Professor Bob Burden at the University of Exeter to develop a whole-school approach to the teaching of thinking. This has proved very successful and there are now schools across the country working in this way.

The Kestrel team members are all people with on-going experience of working in schools and also, like Richard, work closely with the university. In addition we are able to offer support by serving headteachers and senior leaders.
